Estrogen Balance
Estrogen utilization in the body occurs through various biochemical processes. Most of the beneficial actions of estrogen occur through the 2-hydroxylation pathway. The beneficial action of estrogen on bones occurs through 16-hydroxylation. However, some of the other estrogen metabolites of 16-hydroxylation can result in carcinogenic metabolites, which increase the risk of breast, uterine and ovarian cancer. Of course, this is not the only cause of female cancers. However, helping the body facilitate the healthy 2-hydroxylation pathway is one way of lowering your risk of these cancers.
