Frequent Urination
Frequent urination means needing to urinate more often than usual especially at night. Most people can sleep from 6 to 8 hours without having to urinate. A common cause is a urinary tract infection. Since infection reduces the bladder's ability to hold urine, even small amounts cause discomfort and a compelling need to urinate. A bladder infection is called cystitis. Frequent urination in males can be caused by an enlarged prostate. It is common for the prostate to enlarge as a man ages. This enlargement doesn't cause trouble until late in life, at about age 60. The enlarged prostate restricts the flow from the bladder through the urethra, causing shorter, more frequent discharge of urine. Other causes include diuretics and other medications, and over-consumption of caffeine and alcohol before bedtime. You should see your doctor if you suspect an infection.
